			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Social media is more than having a <a href="http://www.facebook.com">Facebook</a>, <a href="http://www.linkedin.com">LinkedIn</a> or <a href="http://www.msn.com">MSN</a> account; it&#8217;s more than uploading a clip onto YouTube; and it&#8217;s more than sending a &#8216;<a href="http://www.twitter.com">Tweet</a>&#8216; from your iPhone when you&#8217;re on the move. In a way it&#8217;s about communicating with people how you&#8217;ve never communicated before.</p>
<p>With the ever-cumbersome number of social media avenues available on the internet, the choice can become daunting when figuring out the best way to communicate your business online.</p>
<p><a href="http://tandemstudios.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/social-media-democracy11-300x299.jpg"><img src="http://tandemstudios.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/social-media-democracy11-300x299.jpg" alt="" title="social-media-democracy11-300x299" width="300" height="299" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-972" /></a></p>
<p>No matter which path you choose, it&#8217;s important to keep your content relevant, engaging, accurate and interesting. The variety of media channels to connect with your target audience is growing and becoming more confusing, but one thing is guaranteed and that is &#8211; &#8216;content is king&#8217;.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not enough to open a <a href="http://www.facebook.com">Facebook</a> page or throw a video on <a href="http://www.youtube.com">YouTube</a>, because if the content doesn&#8217;t engage and connect, you&#8217;ll lose the fantastic online marketing opportunities these new media channels have created.</p>
<p>Advertising dollars are now being shifted away from traditional marketing avenues to creating conversations online. For example, with all the bad press <a href="http://www.telecom.co.nz">Telecom</a>&#8216;s XT Network has been getting lately, they&#8217;ve been keeping their communication lines open by using social media. <a href="http://www.telecom.co.nz/insidext">XT</a> has been updating its customers through <a href="http://www.twitter.com">Twitter</a> as to whether there is an outage, what areas it‘s affecting and how long it might last for.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz">Air New Zealand</a> is also using its staff to communicate with customers through social media. It uses Twitter as a forum to get instant feedback from its customers and a channel for it to share brand messages.</p>
<p>Another interesting social media experiment happening in New Zealand at the moment is the freshly launched <a href="http://www.passiton.co.nz">Pass It On</a> website.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s an initiative to utilise the nearly one million New Zealanders living overseas, as a network of virtual ambassadors. Pass It On is a site where Kiwi expats are being asked to tell their mates and business contacts about everything New Zealand has to offer, particularly when it hosts the Rugby World Cup 2011.</p>
<p>Kiwi Expat Association (KEA) has decided to pick up on the childhood birthday party game of &#8216;Chinese whispers&#8217; and brought it into the 21st Century – into the internet age. The main message KEA is getting across with this kind of social media marketing, is that New Zealand has plenty to brag about, Pass It On. And with plenty of Kiwiana prizes up for grabs each month, it makes it even more appealing.</p>

<p>Podcasting is the perfect vehicle for distributing this kind of long-form content, and we&#8217;ve used it sucessfully to promote lectures, talks, and presentations in a variety of situations.</p>
<p>If you do not record events like these, then they are lost forever. It is so easy to capture this content and make it available forever so that it has a much larger effect over a longer time.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When Wood River Hawes rebranded themselves to become E3 Accountants, they approached it in a simple manner: they asked their customers what <em>they</em> wanted, and they commissioned Tandem Studios to produce a video to explain E3&#8242;s fresh approach to accounting.</p>
<p>When people visited the E3 site they were met simply with the Tandem Studios-produced video and a <em>Contact Us</em> link.</p>

<p>As you will see in the video, E3 Managing Director Jamie Tulloch says business owners told him what they wanted most from their accountant &#8211; fixed-price accounting, delivered on a fixed day at the lowest tax rate possible.</p>
<p>So, Tulloch built a whole new business model to raise the bar on the delivery of accounting services.</p>
<p>Firstly, they renamed the business E3 Business Accountants: E for energy, E for enthusiasm, E for enterprise. He says that &#8220;with these core values at the heart of the company, we now make five bold promises&#8221;.</p>
<p>Promise &#8211; to prepare annual accounts for a fixed price<br />
Promise &#8211; to deliver accounts on a set day<br />
Promise &#8211; to get tax down to the lowest rate possible<br />
Promise &#8211; to answer emails with 24 hours<br />
Promise &#8211; to give you a fee rebate if you pay your accounting fees early</p>
<p>Tulloch says that the video enabled E3 to &#8220;bring alive the often anonymous people found working behind websites. Because we were making promises about fixed prices and fixed delivery dates, the promise needed to carry the extra credibility that only a personal endorsement can give.&#8221;</p>
<p>He says, &#8220;only video could carry our brand promise to the desired level.&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Office of the Clerk has to inform and keep the public up-to-date with what is happening in the House, as part of its statutory commitment to New Zealanders. The Clerk of the House wanted to move Parliament into the online environment, utilising tools such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.</p>
<p>Tandem Studios&#8217; solution was to combine the traditional tool of Parliament TV, with a social media element &#8211; designing and creating a world first solution &#8211; inthehouse.co.nz</p>
<p>It&#8217;s our goal to have all that happens in the House, when Parliament is sitting, up on our site approximately 15 minutes after being broadcast live on television, in easy-to-search categories and in order. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s our intention for these clips to be used and shared by members of the general public as an on-demand service for when they have the time, rather than watching it live on television, and those wanting to get a better understanding of what happens in Parliament by creating an awareness of policy stages and how Bills are passed. </p>
<p>The clips are also being used as a teaching resource in law and political science schools at universities, to get clarification or understanding of certain Bills, Question Time, or generally just keeping up with what is happening in Parliament. Geoff McLay from Victoria University says he spends a good portion of his day &#8220;recommending the site to students as a way of getting to grips with current issues&#8221;.</p>
