The pros and cons of producing videos in-house

There are a few issues to address when deciding whether to produce videos in house.

The first is: Will it be brand damaging? A video that is not produced to the same level as your other marketing materials, and that is not as shiny as your brand, will detract from your brand value. Do you currently produce your traditional marketing materials, like leaflets, posters or radio ads in house?
If you are willing to make an investment into video equipment, technical and creative personnel then you can have great success in producing your own videos, though the only companies that have found success have been very large software and pharmaceutical corporations.

The other point to consider is: will you have the time to produce the content through to completion before it becomes irrelevant? And can you produce regular content to keep your viewers engaged on an ongoing basis? Will you strugge to find the time to devote to content creation?

Many companies we’ve worked with have already gone down the track of trying to produce their own video and found it to be a great deal more challenging than they expected!

The benefit of using an external provider, such as Tandem, to produce video is:

  • The video is finished to a high standard utilising best industry practice
  • The videos are produced quickly, so that the video can be on your website within 3 days of being shot – ultra freshness!
  • Content can be generated in an ongoing manner so that regular visitors to the site and clients can see that you have a living breathing and evolving company, rather than a pool of content that slowly stagnates.

Tandem can offer a very cost effective solution to provide you with engaging content for your site, at a price that would probably be lower than purchasing the gear and devoting in-house resources to it.

Having said that, we can offer a half-way solution, whereby you can shoot the raw footage in-house and then analyse and send edits through for us to complete editing and post production – giving a polished result which supports the quality of your brand.
