Social Media Revolution

By Dave Dunlay

This video from YouTube is great on two levels. Firstly, it helps give the startling background and statistics on the growth and impact of social media on our lives, and secondly, it’s a great example of how the company Socialnomics http://socialnomics.net/ are using social media to market themselves; you give to get.

Interestingly, they have used a Fat Boy Slim song as the soundtrack which I’m positive they wouldn’t have paid for. Fat Boy Slim may be OK about the song being used, as it’s a powerful piece and works brilliantly with the information, and there is a lot of talk online that the use of an artists song on YouTube videos actually leads to an increase of sales through iTunes etc. But it is also a breach of copyright and the company could end up being sued. Never-the-less, the video is great and so far has had over 1.6 million views so you’d have to say a viral hit for the social media crew who has produced it.

Enjoy the Video!
